Klause the Santa Elf | Designed by Robert Simpich
Of all the elves to come from the Simpich studio, Klause is among the most sought after. He steps out of an older Christmas than the one we know — an Old World Santa in a hooded cap and rustic red tunic tied with twine, jingle bells at his belt, a hand-carved wooden staff in one mitten and a lantern glowing amber at its crook. Over his shoulder, a burlap sack carries a fresh-cut pine, bound for home.
Like so many of Robert's depictions of the Spirit of Giving, Klause reaches back to something earlier and quieter — the woodland wanderer who brings the tree, lights the way, and asks nothing in return.
Sculpted by Robert Simpich, then cast, hand-painted, and dressed in hand-sewn clothing in the Simpich doll shop — each one subtly its own. And no more being made.
