The Simpich
Caroller Collection
The Iconic Simpich Caroller Collection
In the late summer and early fall of 1952, newlyweds Bob and Jan Simpich found themselves wondering how they could possibly afford Christmas gifts for their families back home in Missouri. Money was tight, the holiday trip seemed out of reach, and yet the desire to give something meaningful remained.
That spark of necessity—and a bit of newlywed creativity—led Jan to a simple but extraordinary idea: What if they made the gifts themselves?
What followed was the creation of the very first Simpich Christmas Carollers. Hand-crafted from humble materials and shaped with imagination and heart, those early figures became the foundation of a tradition that would continue for more than five decades. The designs born in that 1952 autumn would grow, evolve, and inspire countless beloved characters—ultimately becoming one of the most iconic collections in Simpich history.

Here is where the Simpich story truly begins. Six of these seven figures trace their roots directly back to the original handmade gifts Bob and Jan Simpich created for Bob’s parents in 1952—simple, heartfelt Christmas Carollers that would inspire more than five decades of artistry. A short time later, the beloved Snowball Boy joined their ranks, completing what collectors now know as the Core Seven: the foundation of the entire Caroller Collection.

Among all the designs ever created in the Simpich workshop, the Muff Lady stands as one of the most iconic and enduring figures. Introduced in the earliest years of the Caroler line and refined many times over the decades, she remains instantly recognizable: a young woman bundled against the winter chill, dressed in her finest holiday attire, and stepping confidently into a long Christmas Eve of song.
Despite the variations she saw through the years—different fabrics, hats, hairstyles, and muff trims—her spirit never changed. She’s timeless. Classic. The very image of the Simpich Christmas.

The story of this figure begins in 1952, when Bob and Jan Simpich crafted their very first carolers as handmade Christmas gifts for friends and family. What started as a personal gesture of holiday generosity grew into the iconic Simpich Caroler series — a cornerstone of the Simpich holiday collection and one of the most enduring traditions in American Christmas folk art.
This particular example represents the final evolution of the Fat Man Caroler design, showcasing the refined craftsmanship and expressive character that defined Simpich's later productions. Condition: Excellent | Simpich Caroller – Flute Player (Core Seven) | Vintage Edition
The Flute Player is one of the original Core Seven Carollers and remains the hardest of the seven to find today. His tall, slender design and delicate hands in flute pose made him one of the most fragile early Simpich figures—resulting in far fewer surviving examples than the other classic Carollers.
Dressed in his vibrant green coat, layered scarf, and signature cap, the Flute Player brings movement and charm to the Caroller line. His expressive posture captures the moment mid-song, adding a sense of life and rhythm to any display.
Beautiful, rare, and unmistakably Simpich, the Flute Player is an essential addition for collectors seeking to complete the Core Seven.

Bob and Jan Simpich envisioned Snowball Boy as an essential character, adding a layer of realism to the Caroler ensemble. Over the years, they have lovingly refined his design, maintaining the iconic blue jacket that makes him stand out.

The Early Additions:
Beginning in 1973, Bob and Jan started expanding the Caroller scene beyond the original seven. The Newsboy and the Teenage Girl (listed as the Caroller Girl) were the first to join the set, opening the door to an era of creativity that continued for decades.
From there, the collection grew to include beloved additions like the English Bobby in 1994 and the Fiddler in 1996—each one bringing new personality, charm, and depth to the world of Simpich Carollers.

Simpich Character Dolls — The Caroller Drummer (Vintage First Edition) | Early Production | Pristine Condition
Before the redesign. Before the refinements. This is where it began.
This Vintage Caroller Drummer represents one of the earliest chapters in the Simpich carolling story — believed to be approximately the 9th caroller ever designed by Robert Simpich, introduced just after the Newsboy and produced from the early 1970s through the early 1980s, when the character was reimagined in a later redesign. If you collect Simpich with any sense of history, you know how significant that is. This is not just a caroller — it is a founding member of the collection.
What makes this example truly exceptional is its condition. Finding a Simpich caroller from this era in pristine shape is genuinely rare. Decades of handling, display, and the passage of time take their toll on the fabric costuming that makes these pieces so special — yet this drummer has survived remarkably intact. His rust-orange felt double-breasted jacket retains its richness, the silver buttons are bright and present, and his woven plaid scarf — draped with the casual confidence of a boy who has somewhere important to be — shows no signs of wear. His blue tweed trousers, black leather drum strap, and hand-painted snare drum in bold red and yellow are all crisp and vivid.
His sculpted face is full of character: auburn hair swept back, bright blue eyes focused, drumsticks raised mid-beat. He looks ready to lead the whole procession down a Victorian street.
For the serious Simpich collector, early production pieces in this condition are the ones you wait years to find.
Condition: Pristine

The Rare Carollers:
These Carollers were created in the years just before and after 2000—a brief but creative chapter in the Simpich story. Because most of these designs were produced for only a short time, their surviving numbers are far smaller than the Carollers from the mid-1990s and earlier. Today, many of these late-era pieces are among the hardest to find, cherished for both their beauty and their rarity.

The Nanny – Simpich Caroler Collection
Meet The Nanny, a graceful and elusive figure from the beloved Simpich Caroler Collection. Dressed in rich winter layers and cradling a bundled infant, she radiates warmth and timeless care—a gentle reminder of the many unsung heroes of the season.
One of the rarer Simpich pieces, The Nanny has long held a sense of mystery for collectors. In fact, she was one of the very last figures I discovered myself when I first began working with the Simpich Dolls. That moment stuck with me—it was like uncovering a forgotten page in the story of this cherished art form.
With her dark bonnet, evergreen-trimmed cloak, and peaceful, protective posture, The Nanny brings both elegance and nostalgia to any Christmas display. For those who love the Caroler Collection, this is a treasure not easily found—and not to be missed.

The Maestro brings an air of elegance and authority to the Simpich Caroler Collection, serving as the conductor for the carolers. As one of the later and more rare Caroler designs, the Maestro is a highly sought-after piece, embodying the exceptional artistry and craftsmanship that define Simpich dolls. A must-have for collectors, he adds a touch of sophistication to any holiday scene.

The Happy Urchin is one of the most charming and playful figures in the Simpich Caroler Collection — and one of the hardest to find. This cheerful young boy is caught in a moment every family recognizes: arms overflowing with a towering stack of beautifully wrapped Christmas presents, his wide grin and bright eyes radiating pure holiday excitement.
Every detail tells his story — from his cozy tweed overcoat and colorful fringed scarf to his curly blonde hair and rosy, freckled face. The hand-wrapped gifts he carries are a masterclass in Simpich craftsmanship, each box individually wrapped and ribboned by hand.
The Happy Urchin pairs beautifully with Grandmama and Grandpapa, and together they create one of the most beloved family scenes in the entire Simpich Caroler Collection.
As part of the Rare category of Simpich Character Dolls, the Happy Urchin is significantly harder to find than standard Caroler pieces, making this an exceptional opportunity for serious collectors.
The Ultra Rare Carollers:
These Carollers were created (mostly) in the last years of production—a short but remarkably creative chapter in the Simpich story. Produced for only a few seasons, these designs exist in far smaller numbers than the Carollers from before 2000. Today, they have become some of the hardest pieces to find, treasured not only for their beauty but for the rarity that comes with their limited time in production.

McNair and Friend from the Caroler Collection presents a distinguished older gentleman in a purple wool coat and gray hat, holding a small Cairn terrier dog in his arms. Crafted with meticulous detail, McNair and Friend brings warmth and character to the Caroler scene, embodying the endearing companionship of the season.
Simpich Character Dolls — The Caroller Kitty | Ultra Rare
The Caroller Kitty may be the most difficult to find of the Simpich carollers — in fact, in my decade of working with Simpich Character Dolls, I have only rehomed 2 Caroller Kitties, fewer than any other caroller in the collection. Because of this, I consider the Caroller Kitty the single hardest caroller to find on the secondary market. Produced for only a handful of years during the 1980s as the feline counterpart to the beloved Dickens Dog 1, this piece was made in extremely limited quantities and simply does not come up for sale. In all our years of specializing in Simpich Character Dolls, we have sold every other Ultra Rare caroller multiple times over before finding another example of this one.
The craftsmanship speaks for itself. Carefully designed by Robert Simpich, the Caroller Kitty is a hand-painted figurine rendered in warm amber, russet, and cream tones, with extraordinary attention to fur texture — each stroke evoking the luxurious coat of a longhaired cat at rest. Her most striking feature is a pair of luminous hand-set green glass eyes that give her an almost lifelike gaze. She sits in a relaxed, composed pose atop a beautifully finished dark walnut display base, ready to anchor any serious Simpich collection.
Whether you're a lifelong Simpich collector completing your caroller set or a serious vintage collectibles enthusiast, you know how rarely pieces like this surface. Don't wait on this one.

The Salvation Army Woman holds a special place in Simpich history—not only for her rarity, but for the purpose behind her creation. Unlike the late-era ultra rare pieces of the 2000s, this figure was produced only briefly in the 1980s as part of a fundraiser for the Salvation Army, making her one of the few Carollers tied directly to a charitable cause.
Dressed in a rich red coat with a matching bonnet, she carries a basket of goods and a copy of War Cry, the Salvation Army’s historic publication. Her design reflects a quiet dignity—capturing the heart of service, generosity, and compassion that defined the organization and inspired her creation.
This figure stands out as a meaningful and symbolic piece in the Caroller Collection. With her striking colors, detailed basket, and thoughtful historical ties, the Salvation Army Woman remains one of the most sought-after and emotionally resonant Simpich designs—an inspiring reminder of the true spirit of giving at Christmastime.

As one of the final designs in the series, this charming figure holds a concertina, joyfully playing carols that fill the air with holiday spirit. Dressed in a warm wool overcoat, complete with a cozy scarf and cap, Concertina Man exudes classic charm, while his friendly beard adds to his character.
With a lively expression and finely detailed instrument, this rare piece brings a nostalgic warmth to any holiday display. As one of the last carolers ever created, Concertina Man holds a special place in the collection, making him a must-have for collectors. Bring him home today and celebrate the timeless joy of caroling this season and beyond!
Condition: Pristine | Ultra Rare
The final design in the beloved Simpich Carolers Collection, released only a few months before the original business closed its doors in 2006. The Organ Grinder has become nearly legendary among collectors, being so elusive and nearly impossible to find. This unique piece captures the classic charm of a Victorian street performer, with the Organ Grinder dressed warmly in a wool coat, holding a detailed organ topped with a cheerful monkey.
This rare figure is a tribute to the legacy of Simpich artistry, embodying the nostalgia and spirit of the Caroler Collection and making it an essential piece for collectors.
The Ultra Rare Carollers: The Cobblestone Kids
The only sub collection within the official Caroller Collection as outlined by Jan Simpich in her little red book, is the Cobblestone Kids also refered to as the Puppies for Sale Collection. Where as many of the ultra rare designs above (the Organ Grinder, Concertina Man and McNair and Friend) were Robert Simpich’s farewell designs to the Caroller Collection, the Cobblestone Kids were Jan Simpich’s. Showcasing you love of young life, the Cobblestone Kids are out on a brisk snowy Christmas Eve along with the other Carollers, but the cobblestone kids are looking to spread Christmas Cheer all year long by selling a new litter of puppies!

With her bright red gloves gripping a caroling sheet tightly in the cold, Abby is ready to sing her heart out through the snowy streets of Christmas Eve. Her expression is focused and full of determination — she’s clearly not letting a chill get in the way of a perfect performance.
Meet Eve — dressed in festive green and full of confidence, she takes the lead with ease. You can tell she knows the words to every carol by heart — the sheet music in her gloved hand is more of a formality than a necessity. With her composed expression and relaxed grip, Eve brings a quiet joy and natural poise to the group.
Meet Nicky — while he may be humming along to the more familiar carols, his attention is clearly elsewhere. He’s not here just to sing — he’s on a mission to deliver joy in the form of a cuddly, wriggling puppy held proudly in his arms. His sheet music? Long forgotten. After all, what better gift could a village receive on Christmas Eve than a few new furry friends?
Meet Sally — unlike her little brother Nicky, who’s joyfully trying to re-home a litter of puppies, Sally’s Christmas Eve companion is strictly spoken for. Wrapped gently in a blanket and held close in one arm is her new kitten, a gift she simply couldn’t leave behind. With her song sheet in the other hand and a determined expression on her face, Sally is ready to sing her way through the chilly streets — spreading cheer while keeping her new best friend safe and warm.
Meet Ben, the eldest of the group and very likely their unofficial leader. With a lantern raised high to light the way and a knit cap pulled tight to fight off the cold, Ben is ready for whatever a stormy Christmas Eve might bring. His pose, expression, and layers of warm Victorian clothing tell a story full of imagination and holiday spirit.

The Puppy Cart is perhaps the most whimsical piece in the entire set — a rolling bundle of Christmas joy. As Nicky and the rest of the Cobblestone Kids make their way through the village, this little cart carries a lively litter of golden retriever puppies, all curled together in a cozy pile to keep warm as they’re wheeled toward their new homes.
Whether for comfort or convenience (or both!), the cart adds a joyful detail to the set — a moment that brings movement, energy, and delight to the Cobblestone Kids’ story. It’s a symbol of generosity, wonder, and the kind of Christmas magic only childhood can deliver.
The puppy cart is the rarest of all the cobblestone kids, with many collections not including this essential piece of the set. The Puppy Cart is perfect for collectors who love the imagination, warmth, and storytelling that make the Simpich legacy so unforgettable.
