Hap has found his Christmas tree, and he'd like a hand decorating it.
That's what the wave means — one arm up, grin wide, absolutely certain you'll say yes. The tree itself is Hap's little secret: to you or me it's a small cutting off a small pine, but dragged home to an elf house built into an old stump, it's a proper Tannenbaum, floor to ceiling, the kind the whole burrow comes to admire.
He's dressed for the errand: a tan suede coat with a zigzag hem, a long plaid scarf against the December air, brown mittens, and a sculpted hat pulled down snug. One mitten grips the trunk. The other is busy inviting you in.
His name says the rest. Hap is short for happy, and the sculpt doesn't leave any doubt.
