Light Bearer - Nativity - From The Simpich Collection
From the Simpich Collection | Very Rare
“The shepherds were watching their flocks by night…”
From that timeless verse came one of Robert Simpich’s most poetic creations — The Light Bearer. Designed as part of the Simpich Nativity Collection, this figure captures the quiet wonder of the moment the shepherds first received the news of Christ’s birth.
Holding a lantern that glows softly against the folds of his robe, The Light Bearer stands as a symbol of guidance and faith — the humble messenger who carries light into darkness. Robert spent many long hours exploring how to express that single instant of divine realization: the upward gaze, the gentle lift of the arm, the face illuminated by both earthly and heavenly light.
Every detail — from the carefully woven fabric of his robe to the lifelike expression filled with awe — reflects the depth of Robert and Jan Simpich’s devotion to craftsmanship and meaning. The muted earth tones and natural materials mirror the simplicity of the Nativity itself, while the lantern draws the viewer’s focus to the enduring theme of hope shining through night.
The Light Bearer is among the rarest of the entire Simpich Nativiy scene, being introduced in the early 2000s and seeing only a few years of production only a few thousand were produced.
Among the many figures of the Simpich Nativity, The Light Bearer remains a collector favorite — a perfect embodiment of the Simpich tradition of blending art, faith, and storytelling.
A piece both serene and powerful, it continues to remind us that even in the stillness of the night, the light of Christmas is always near.
This doll is part of The Simpich Family Collection — a limited offering of original Simpich Character Dolls released directly from the personal holdings of the Simpich Family. These are not consigned or newly produced pieces, but dolls that have been cared for, displayed, or preserved by the family since the closing of the Simpich Doll Shop in 2007. Many originated from the former Simpich Museum or were inherited from Bob and Jan Simpich themselves. Each has been personally inspected and chosen for release by David, Debby, and Toby Simpich to ensure it represents the artistry, warmth, and spirit of the Simpich legacy.
While there may be future releases, very few pieces remain that the family is prepared to part with — making each offering from this collection a rare and heartfelt connection between the Simpich Family and the community that continues to celebrate their work. Every piece includes documentation verifying its origin from The Simpich Family Collection and is offered in its original, family-kept condition.
