The classic themes and colorful imagery of Hans Christian Andersen’s original fairy tale, T he Little Mermaid, are now brought to life as never before on the Simpich Marionette Stage. Utilizing a complete cast of handcarved string puppets, the story is presented through the eyes of a withering and embittered king who is given a privileged glimpse back to his young adulthood and the mysterious circumstances surrounding his famed rescue at sea. The story gradually carries the old man to the depths of the ocean floor and the enchanted garden of a mermaid named Leezel and her family. From here an adventure unfolds that will ultimately redefine all the king understood of himself and transform his aging, failing heart to embrace a greater “rescue” he had for decades refused to see or understand.
Runtime is 100 minutes and includes a 10 minute intermission.
