The Pilgrim's Progress (1998)

In honor of Toby, the Simpich's second son, The Pilgrim's Progress was produced and premiered at Mount Saint Francis Auditorium in April, 1998.  In many ways, it stands as David's most ambitious show-- and employed nearly thirty marionettes and a unique staging concept which moved (progressed) the action slowly from stage left to right as Christian journeyed from the City of Destruction toward the Celestial Gate. At stage center, and as the story's centerpiece, Christian encountered Calvary's Cross -- where the heavy burden was released from his back and he was made new to continue his arduous journey. As in many of his other plays, David portrayed the story's author, John Bunyan, as he illustrated his strange and profound "dream."  The Pilgrim's Progress toured nationally in 1998 and early 1999.
