Oliver Twist  (1996)

David designed and premiered his third Dickens' production, Oliver Twist, in early 1996.  Again, by portraying Charles Dickens as storyteller and puppeteer, a unique visualization of "story creation" was presented on stage. In his adaptation, David chose to emphasize the potent contrast and triumph of simple innocence and integrity over monumental forces of evil and corruption. As with Great Expectations and A Christmas Carol, David felt that the larger-than-life characterizations and plot devices of Oliver Twist were perfectly suited to the exaggeration and straightforwardness of Marionette Theatre. This show premiered in Longmont, Colorado and toured to both the west and east coasts in 1996- 97.
