Heidi first premiered in the Seattle area. It was also the second production performed at the Simpich Marionette Theater facility in Colorado Springs. It was the only Simpich play to utilize three stage openings and a unique hydraulic "storybook" that raised and lowered during scene changes. During the early years of the Simpich shows, David and Debby performed the character voices live for every performance. For this reason, the puppet staging or "blocking" was carefully worked out to allow the puppeteer to manipulate the character for which he or she was providing the voice. For this play, Debby provided the voice of Heidi and David performed the other character voices. In 1990, a soundtrack was recorded and used for a short time before the play was retired. |
