Tom Sawyer (1989)

With Tom Sawyer, David returned from his first solo show, Aesop (1988), to the two-puppeteer performance format.  This was the last show that David and Debby performed together.  It was also the only Simpich marionette play that originated using a prerecorded soundtrack for the voice characterizations. The original adaptation by Simpich was hosted by author Mark Twain who appeared in many of the play's key scenes.  During the climactic "Lost in the Cave" sequence, he appears to Tom and Becky and shows them the way out of McDougal's Cave.  Tom asks Twain if he can really do such a thing, to which Twain replies, "This is my story, I can do whatever I like..."
