In this adventure story set in an icebound fairy tale Russia, Prince Ivan is pitted against his evil brothers to find and capture the mysterious and dangerous Firebird that is stealing golden fruit from the Tsar’s enchanted frozen garden. Ivan is aided in his quest by the mysterious and versatile “Friend,” who helps him by taking on the form of many creatures, including a wolf, mouse, owl and firefly. Friend also leads Ivan to further adventures in the Kingdom of the Golden Mare and the home of Princess Vassilissa.
This original play by puppeteer David Simpich has pulled elements from over seven versions of the ancient fairy tale and features a full cast of hand-carved marionettes.
Simpich Showcase is offering a Priority Seating Special for its marionette performances this weekend (Friday, February 24 through Sunday, February 26).
